| CHICAGO (October 12, 2005) - Fr Tadeusz Pacholczyk, Ph.D., a leading spokesman on the Catholic Church’s position on cloning and the use of embryonic stem cells for research, will present two seminars in Chicago on Sunday and Monday, October 16 and 17, on the topic of stem cell research – one at Archbishop Quigley Preparatory Seminary and the other at the University of Illinois at Chicago. As director of education for the National Catholic Bioethics Center, Fr. Pacholczyk has testified at state legislative hearings and given presentations on stem cells, cloning and other biotechnologies throughout the United States and in Europe.
The presentation on Sunday, October 16, at Archbishop Quigley Preparatory Seminary, 103 E. Chestnut, will include a brunch. It will be preceded by a Mass at 11 a.m. in the seminary chapel sponsored by the Catholic Physicians Guild and celebrated by Bishop Timothy Lyne. There is a $25 fee for the brunch and presentation.
The second seminar will be presented at the UIC’s College of Medicine, 840 S. Wood St., Room 221, at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, October 17. This seminar is free.
Both seminars are open to the public and are co-sponsored by the Illinois State Council of the Knights of Columbus, the Illinois Federation for the Right to Life, the Catholic Physicians Guild and the Archdiocese of Chicago’s Respect Life Office.
A parish priest in Falmouth, MA, Fr. Pacholczyk holds a Ph.D. in neuroscience from Yale University and did post-doctoral research at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School. He also holds degrees in advanced theology and bioethics.
