To focus on Outreach and Social Justice issues concerning Hispanic community

Chicago, IL (November 17, 2005) – Nearly 150 seminarians from 15 different seminaries across the U.S and one seminary in Mexico will be gathering this week at the University of St. Mary of the Lake Seminary, located at 1000 E. Maple Ave. in Mundelein, IL to discuss issues of Social Justice as well as effective outreach strategies to an ever-increasing number of Latino Catholics in this country. The conference will begin today and is scheduled to end on Sunday, November 20.

Fr. Alberto Rojas, Director of Hispanic Ministry at the Seminary, believes that this gathering will “enrich and enhance our preparation to love and serve our Catholic Church in the United States in a more Christ-like manner, and with a particular focus on the Hispanic Community, the poor in a middle class church. How can we preach to them? How can we bring Christ to them? How can we serve them better?”

The conference will cover the topics of Social Justice and Preaching/ Evangelization to the Hispanic Community under the theme, “Muchas Culturas, Un Solo Evangelio” or “Many Cultures, One Gospel.”

The following world-renowned experts are scheduled to speak at the conference:

• Fr. Jose Marins and Sr. Teo Trevisan (Brazil) on Social Justice.
• Mr. Jose H. Prado (Mexico) the world director of the more than 2,000 San Andres schools of Preaching and Evangelization will speak on the subject.
• Ms. Rosa Guerrero, community activist from El Paso, TX. on Racism.

The conference will be held on the Mundelein campus at the AULA-(800 Principal Ave.) Music Room and Jagola Room.
