This book contains two main sections: approximately one third is dedicated to the rich history of the Archdiocese of Chicago from the early years as a mission church to its current status as one of the premier Catholic Diocese’ in the World. It tells a story of how a people of faith have faced, and continue to face, the challenges of living the gospel message in this portion of the Lords Vineyard. The second section introduces every parish, starting with City Parishes in alphabetical order and ending with the Suburbs Parishes, in alphabetical order per township. His Eminence, Francis Cardinal George, O.M.I., Archbishop of Chicago will preface the book.
Hundreds of color photographs, archival documents, paintings and maps illustrate the rich history of the Catholic Church in Chicago. Each parish biography is highlighted with three photographs representing the exterior and interior of the church and a distinguishing feature that the parish regards as a treasure.
AIMS
The aim of the book is to provide Catholic families and many other readers with a better knowledge of the Chicago’s Catholic origins and heritage, its life and ministry, its evolution and challenges, growth and changes since its foundation in Chicago.
