Sanctuary is the Archdiocese of Chicago’s official television news-magazine program that can be seen quarterly on ABC-7. The half-hour program features people and events that best reflect the vibrancy of the Catholic faith in the Chicago area. Examples of recent stories covered on Sanctuary include: A north suburban priest donates part of his liver to save a parishioner’s life; The Catholic Campaign for Human Development combats the root causes of poverty; Chicago area Catholics who traveled to New York and Washington D.C. react to the visit of Pope Benedict XVI; And the Civil War is reenacted at a South Side Catholic elementary school in a very creative history lesson.
The host of Sanctuary is Father Greg Sakowicz, pastor of St. Mary of the Woods Parish. The program airs on Sunday mornings in January, April, July and October with exact dates and times determined by ABC-7. Sanctuary is produced by the Archdiocesan Office of Radio and Television, and most of its videotaping is done on location throughout the Chicago area.
